sadness

we were thinking about all the sad things that weigh us down and make us heavy in our hearts - there was quite a pile by the time we had finished - a lot of little drops of sadness - all the hard stuff - sometimes that is difficult to let go of...........but it can be done

Found my way to you via jonny baker.

I like this post and I love the image! Did you actually use rocks in this manner in some sort of exercise or worship?

Can you talk about some of the detail if you did?

glad you liked the post laura - it was not a worship event - a local church wanted to put on an easter story event for children at the primary school which would encourage classes to visit the church as part of their religious education lessons on How do Christians Celebrate Easter ? - a group of older people in the congregation were trained as storytellers - they used a version of the story that would be inclusive, easily accessed by children from different faiths or none and they constructed exercises that would help children to remember the story and relate it to their own experiences in an appropriate way - there were six sites in the main sanctuary, all beautifully decorated - children moved round in groups and joined in the storytelling and a short activity at each site - these stones were from the main site which was a simple wooden cross, some stones and white chalk - the children were asked to think about things that caused them to be sad and draw them on a stone - then they heard the story of the death of Jesus and how the disciples were sad - the next site was a garden, and they looked at the contrasting emotions of the women visiting the tomb - i can email you pictures of the sites if you want and the notes that went with them for the storyteller if you like - i think it would work equally well for worship with adults

Julie- thanks! That would be great! I think we could use this at a small house church I've been attending over the last couple months. I'm just not quite sure how yet....but the story and the image have given me the seed of an idea.
Assuming you can see my email address on your post or email. If not, I'll check back here and post it.

Thanks!!
